What it MEANS to GLORIFY GOD?
1. Negatively, to glorify God, is NOT to give any ADDITIONAL GLORY to God: it is not to make God more glorious than He is; for God is incapable of receiving the least addition to His essential glory.
His being is INFINITELY PERFECT and ABSOLUTELY GLORIOUS for eternity already.
2. Positively, to glorify God, is TO MANIFEST GOD’S GLORY: not only PASSIVELY, as other creatures do, even those which are inanimate and irrational ones, but also ACTIVELY.
That is, men and women, glorify God, when THE CHARACTER OF THEIR LIVES and their ACTIONS expose, demonstrate and exalt the glory and honor of God.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
– 1 Peter 2:9
